Space Rental
TERMS AND CONDITIONS
1. SPACE PROVISIONS. Our beautiful, new dance studio located in the heart of the Gowanus in Brooklyn is column-free and fully equipped with full-length mirrors, a portable barre, a sound system, chairs (upon request), Rosco marley floors with a subfloor, heat/air-conditioning, WiFi, and a silent, state-of-the-arts air purifier. Our studio is clean and bright with natural light, and renters have access to a private bathroom. Studio dimensions: 700 square feet; Dance floor Area: 22x24 or 530 square feet. Capacity Limit: 10 people.
2. BOOKINGS. First-time renters must go through orientation; once you have been approved, you can book online via Skedda and manage your own bookings online.
3. CANCELLATION: Vangeline Theater/ New York Butoh Institute has a strict 48-hours CANCELLATION POLICY. You can manage, and cancel your bookings via Skedda. If you do not cancel your booking within 3 days or less of your reserved date you are responsible for full payment. Last minute bookings are non-refundable or exchangeable.
4. EXTREME WEATHER POLICY: We will accommodate last minute cancellations during extreme weather only if public transportation has been shut down, or the city has ordered an emergency lock down or severe weather warning urging residents to stay indoors. Other than in these circumstances, renters are responsible for their bookings.
5. PAYMENTS AND RATE. Payments are made directly via Skedda. After you agree to the terms and conditions stated here, and once have made your booking via Skedda and have received a confirmation from Skedda, you pay directly on their website prior to, or the day of your booking. Our rental rate is $10/hour for rehearsals and $25/hour for classes.
6.USAGE.
The studio shall be used for the purpose specified at the time of booking (dance rehearsal, class, event, etc.). Do not arrive earlier than your bookings; there is no waiting area for you and your collaborators. You must leave the premises by the time your rental ends.
We have a strict SHOES OFF policy. If you rent our space for readings or auditions, all participants must take their shoes off with no exception. The dance floor is not suitable for flamenco, tap, and no rosin is allowed.
Chairs are available upon request.
To enter the space, you will be given a code for the lockbox and a code to come into studio 207 via Skedda or via email.
Always make sure the door is closed and locked behind you when you enter and exit. Do not let strangers into the space. After closing, leave the key back in the lockbox and scramble the code.
Please be respectful of our beautiful space. Before leaving the space, turn off all lights, sound system, AC, space heaters (Fall/Winter), the air purifier, and close all windows.
Marley Floor — VERY IMPORTANT
Please treat the Marley floor with great care. After your session: clean the Marley using the Swiffer and spray bottle provided.
DO NOT:
Drag furniture, suitcases, or equipment across the floor.
Never touch any of the inside locks- access to the space is from the outside keypad and we lock the door from the outside.
If using chairs, tables, or music stands: You must place paper, a thin yoga mat, or a blanket underneath to protect the floor.
One thin blanket and brown paper are available in the bathroom.
If you bring additional equipment, please bring your own floor protection.
⚠️ We take the care of the Marley floor very seriously.
Rentals will be discontinued if the floor shows marks or damage after use.
Before You Leave
·Lock the studio door.
Check the calendar before your rental ends in case another renter is scheduled immediately after you.
Responsibilities
As the designated renter, you are responsible for everyone in your group. You must be the first person to enter the space.
You are the only person permitted to lock up the studio. Never delegate this responsibility to anyone in your group, as you are personally liable.
If someone in your group leaves belongings behind, you must contact us via email or text to arrange pickup at a time when the studio manager is present in the studio.
If there is something wrong in the space, (i.e. the heat or electricity isn't working, water leaks, the door is found unlocked, etc.), please contact us immediately via text or phone call.
FEES CHARGED: If you leave the AC, lights or heat on overnight, you will be charged a $25 to $50 fee.
VIDEO SURVEILLANCE. For legal and security reasons, the premises may be under video surveillance.
9. LIABILITY WAIVER.
I hereby release, waive, discharge and covenant not to sue Vangeline Theater, its officers, agents, and employees (hereinafter referred to as "releases") from any and all liability, claims, demands, actions, and causes of action whatsoever arising out of or relating to any loss, damage or injury, including death, that may be sustained by me, or to any property belonging to me, except caused by the negligence or willful misconduct of the releasees, or the acts or omissions of any third party, or any force majeure event, while participating in the activities, or while in, on or upon the premises where the activities are being conducted, while in transit to or from the premises, or in any place or places connected with the activities.
I am fully aware of risks and hazards connected with being on the premises and participating in the activities, and I am fully aware that there may be risks and hazards unknown to me connected with being on the premises and participating in the activities, and I hereby elect to voluntarily participate in the activities, to enter upon the above-named premises and engage in activities knowing that conditions may be hazardous, or may become hazardous or dangerous to me and my property.
I voluntarily assume full responsibility for any risks of loss, property damage or personal injury, including death, that may be sustained by me, or any loss or damage to property owned by me, as a result of my being a participant in the activities, except caused by the negligence or willful misconduct of the releasees, or the acts or omissions of any third party, or any Force Majeure event.
I further hereby agree to indemnify and save and hold harmless the releasees and each of them, from any loss, liability, damage or costs they may incur due to my participation in the activities, and use of The Vangeline Theater, except caused by the negligence or willful misconduct of the releasees, or the acts or omissions of any third party, or any force majeure event.
