Space Rental

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

  1. SPACE PROVISIONS. Our beautiful, new dance studio located in the heart of the Gowanus in Brooklyn is column-free and fully equipped with full-length mirrors, a portable barre, a sound system, chairs (upon request), Rosco marley floors with a subfloor, heat/air-conditioning, WiFi, and a silent, state-of-the-arts air purifier. Our studio is clean and bright with natural light, and renters have access to a private bathroom. Studio dimensions: 700 square feet; Dance floor Area: 22x24 or 530 square feet. Capacity Limit: 10 people.

  2. BOOKINGS. First-time renters must go through orientation; once you have been approved, you can book online via Skedda and manage your own bookings online.

  3. CANCELLATION: Vangeline Theater/ New York Butoh Institute has a strict 72-hours CANCELLATION POLICY. You can manage, and cancel your bookings via Skedda. If you do not cancel your booking within 3 days or less of your reserved date you are responsible for full payment. Last-minute bookings are non-refundable or exchangeable.

  4. EXTREME WEATHER POLICY: We will accommodate last-minute cancellations during extreme weather only if public transportation has been shut down, or the city has ordered an emergency lock down or severe weather warning urging residents to stay indoors. Other than in these circumstances, renters are responsible for their bookings.

  5. PAYMENTS AND RATE. Payments are made directly via Skedda. After you agree to the terms and conditions stated here, and once you have made your booking via Skedda and have received an email confirmation from Skedda, your card will be charged after your booking. Our rental rate is $15/hour for bookings (rehearsals, auditions, readings) and $25/hour for classes.

  6. USAGE. The studio shall be used for the purpose specified at the time of booking (dance rehearsal, class, event, etc.). Do not arrive earlier than 10 minutes before your bookings; there is no waiting area for you and your dancers, and or collaborators. After your booking ends, you have a 15-minute grace period to get changed, gather your belonging, sweep the Marley, leave and return the key to the lockbox.

    We have a strict SHOES OFF policy. If you rent our space for reading or audition, all participants must take their shoes off with no exception. The dance floor is not suitable for flamenco, tap, and no rosin is allowed.

    Chairs are available upon request.

    To enter the space, you will be given a code for the lockbox via Skedda or via email.

    Always make sure the door is closed and locked behind you when you enter and exit. Do not let strangers into the space. After closing, leave the key back in the lockbox. The lockbox is electronic- the code is unique to you and the lockbox will notify us of when you picked up and returned the keys.

    Thank you for being respectful of our space. Before leaving the space, turn off all lights, sound system, AC, space heaters (Fall/Winter), the air purifier, and close all windows. Instructions for turning on and off air purifiers and heaters will be available on site.

    We ask that each renter please sweep the Marley at the end of their rental for the next renter and please take all your garbage outside with you. Whatever you bring into the space, you should take out with you when you leave. Dispose of your garbage in garbage bins outside of the main entrance to the right-hand side of the building, behind the large metal door, where you found the lockbox. Do not store any objects in our space.

    If there is something wrong in the space, (i.e. the heat or electricity isn't working, water leaks, the door is found unlocked, etc.), please contact us immediately via text or phone call.

  7. VIDEO SURVEILLANCE. For legal and security reasons, the premises may be under video surveillance.

  8. LIABILITY WAIVER.

    I hereby release, waive, discharge and covenant not to sue Vangeline Theater, its officers, agents, and employees (hereinafter referred to as "releases") from any and all liability, claims, demands, actions, and causes of action whatsoever arising out of or relating to any loss, damage or injury, including death, that may be sustained by me, or to any property belonging to me, except caused by the negligence or willful misconduct of the releases, or the acts or omissions of any third party, or any force majeure event, while participating in the activities, or while in, on or upon the premises where the activities are being conducted, while in transit to or from the premises, or in any place or places connected with the activities.

    I am fully aware of risks and hazards connected with being on the premises and participating in the activities, and I am fully aware that there may be risks and hazards unknown to me connected with being on the premises and participating in the activities, and I hereby elect to voluntarily participate in the activities, to enter upon the above-named premises and engage in activities knowing that conditions may be hazardous, or may become hazardous or dangerous to me and my property.

    I voluntarily assume full responsibility for any risks of loss, property damage, or personal injury, including death, that may be sustained by me, or any loss or damage to property owned by me, as a result of my being a participant in the activities, except caused by the negligence or willful misconduct of the releases, or the acts or omissions of any third party, or any Force Majeure event.

    I further hereby agree to indemnify and save and hold harmless the releases and each of them, from any loss, liability, damage, or costs they may incur due to my participation in the activities, and use of The Vangeline Theater, except caused by the negligence or willful misconduct of the releases, or the acts or omissions of any third party, or any force majeure event.
