Deborah Butler (KitsuneButoh/StarseedButoh) was first introduced to Butoh in 1994 while an undergrad at The Evergreen State College in Olympia, WA. Her first teacher, Doranne Crable, a student of Kazuo Ohno and performance faculty at Evergreen, established Kagami Butoh in 1994 and Deborah was one of the first company members. Over the years, Deborah has had the privilege of studying with many master teachers such as: Joan Laage, Oguri, Akira Kasai, Natsu Nakajima, Yumiko Yoshoika, Su-En, and Vangeline, just to name a few. She has taught and performed nationally and internationally at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, the San Francisco Butoh Festival, and was a teacher at the SF Butoh Community Classes with Shoshana Green and Megan Nicely. Since moving to Connecticut in 2017, Deborah has been working to establish a Butoh community in the Quiet Corner of Connecticut where she now calls home. Deborah is a trained Somatic Psychotherapist and licensed Marital and Family Therapist currently Project Director for the Early Childhood ARC Program at UCFS Heathcare and is in private practice. She resides in the woods of Storrs, CT with her 10 year old son and 3 cats.


Cancellations for all classes must be made 12 hours before the class start time. Students that do not attend the class will not receive any form of credit or exchange.
