An Evening of Butoh in Berlin: Vangeline & Shahryar Shahamat
Join us for a rare evening of Butoh in Berlin, featuring two internationally acclaimed guest artists from New York: Vangeline and Shahryar Shahamat.
Iranian-born artist Shahryar Shahamat will premiere Calla, a new solo work exploring transformation through the raw, poetic language of Butoh.
Renowned Butoh artist Vangeline will perform her celebrated solo The Slowest Wave, a 60-minute work hailed for its sculptural stillness, haunting beauty, and posthuman aesthetic. Choreographed in collaboration with neuroscientists and composer Ray Sweeten, The Slowest Wave redefines sensuality through the slow, deliberate movement of Butoh—inviting reflection on time, transformation, and the body as living architecture.

Erleben Sie einen seltenen Abend mit Butoh in Berlin, präsentiert von zwei international renommierten Gastkünstler*innen aus New York: Vangeline und Shahryar Shahamat.
Der im Iran geborene Künstler Shahryar Shahamat zeigt die Berlin-Premiere von Calla, einem neuen Solo, das Themen von Transformation durch die rohe, poetische Sprache des Butoh erforscht.
Die bekannte Butoh-Künstlerin Vangeline präsentiert ihr gefeiertes Solo The Slowest Wave, ein 60-minütiges Werk voller skulpturaler Stille, eindringlicher Schönheit und posthumaner Ästhetik. Die Choreografie entstand in Zusammenarbeit mit Neurowissenschaftler*innen und dem Komponisten Ray Sweeten. The Slowest Wave definiert Sinnlichkeit neu – durch langsame, bewusste Bewegungen, die zur Reflexion über Zeit, Wandel und den Körper als lebendige Architektur einladen.
Ein einzigartiges Erlebnis zweier kraftvoller Stimmen des zeitgenössischen Butoh – nur für einen Abend.
