Vangeline will teach a butoh workshop in September 2019 culminating in a public butoh performance on 9/11 in Times Square.

Learn Butoh choreography with NYFA/ NYSCA Artist Fellow in Choreography Vangeline and perform a butoh offering on September 11, 2019 in Times Square. Beginners and all levels are welcome.

Participation is all four days of the workshops is mandatory to perform on September 11.
Participating students may take single days and opt not to perform. You may also take the entire workshop and opt not to perform.

Vangeline is a 2018 NYSCA/ NYFA Artist Fellow in Choreography. She draws on 18 years of experience as a Butoh teacher and Butoh performer. She is the winner of the 2015 Gibney Dance's Beth Silverman-Yam Social Action Award, and the winner of the 2019 Janet Arnold Award from the Society of Antiquaries of London. She is also the founder of the 12-year running, award-winning program “Dream a Dream Project", which brings Butoh dance to incarcerated men and women at correctional facilities across New York City. Recent invitations include teaching engagements at the Chile Fire Butoh Festival, Taiwan Darkness Festival, in Hong Kong and at Studio 303 in Montreal. Vangeline is the author of an upcoming book about Butoh focusing on the Mind-Body connection. This workshop is informed by her two decades of Butoh research.

This unique training is an invaluable tool for dancers, actors, adult beginners, encouraging participants to open up and expand physically and energetically. This workshop creates a gentle and supportive environment to start an individual and collective process of investigation through creative movement.

Our classes are open level and beginners are welcome.
