Melissa Lohman is a performer, dancer, visual artist from New York City. She currently lives in Rome, Italy. BFA 2000, School of Visual Arts, NYC. In 1995 she began showing her work as a performance artist in various theaters and clubs in New York City such as the Living Theater, the Knitting Factory, UCB Theater, CBGB’s and Webster Hall. After returning to dance training a few years prior (ballet, Afro-Caribbean, Simonson technique, contemporary), in 2004 she began training in the Japanese contemporary dance form butoh with Minako Seki. She continued her training with Ko Murobushi, Yoshito Ohno, Tadashi Endo and Katsura Kan. She studied Noguchi Taiso with and danced for Mari Osanai. From 2008-2010 she danced for and collaborated with Katsura Kan in New York, Los Angeles, and San Francisco. Since 2010 she has brought her work as a solo performer to theaters in Rome, Paris, Tuscany and New York. In 2012 Melissa began her collaboration with the poet, actor and director, Marcello Sambati (Dark Camera) and the performer, Flavio Arcangeli. In 2013 she co-founded the company Arcalòh with Flavio Arcangeli, with the support of Dark Camera. Arcalòh was a company in residence at Rialto Sant’Ambrogio, Rome, 2014-2015. The company was invited by the production house, PiùVolume to create a site-specific work for the gardens of the Castel Sant’Angelo, Rome, as part of the Estate Romana 2015. In 2016, Melissa was the choreographer for artist/architect Bryony Robert’s site-specific piece, Corpo Estraneo. The work was made for and shown in the Piazza Campidoglio, Rome as part of the exhibition Studio Systems at the American Academy, Rome. In 2016-2017, she held a residency and premiered the work Sfinge (Sphinx) at Teatro Studio Uno, Rome. Melissa teaches dance/movement and stretch classes in different environments.


This unique training is an invaluable tool for dancers, actors, adult beginners, encouraging participants to open up and expand physically and energetically. This workshop creates a gentle and supportive environment to start an individual and collective process of investigation through creative movement.
Our classes are open level and beginners are welcome.
